He has served as chairman of numerous committees at both the state and local levels, including the curriculum development committee and professional standards committee. Blume has also served as MAAR's chief mediation officer. He is an instructor for Graduate Realtor Institute courses and is the author of a popular series of cartoons that appeared in NAR's national publication illustrating Code of Ethics issues. Gary is currently serving as a Tennessee Real Estate Commissioner, a Governor appointed position.
